Human Embryo Carnegie Stage 14

Embryo appears as Carnegie Stage 14 from ectopic pregnancy.

  • Ventral view of embryo is partially enclosed in amniotic membrane.
  • Larger cavity is chorionic space (coelom).
  • Placental villi are visible outside chorionic membrane.
  • Small sac (right) connected to umbilical region is the yolk sac.
  • Vitelline blood vessels vessels can be seen in the yolk stalk connecting the yolk sac to the embryo.

  • Week 5, 31 - 35 days, 5 - 7 mm
  • Gestational Age GA week 7
  • Mesoderm: continued segmentation of paraxial mesoderm (30+ somite pairs), heart prominence
  • Head: 1st, 2nd and 3rd pharyngeal arch, forebrain, site of lens placode, site of otic placode, stomodeum
  • Body: heart, liver, umbilical, upper and early lower limb bud
