Introduction

Franz Keibel (1861 - 1929)

Franz Keibel (1861 - 1929) was a German anatomist and embryologist. Starting from 1897 the editor of the series "vertebrate embryological standard panels" that form the basis of modern embryology stages.

Born in Berlin (July 6, 1861) he studied medicine in both Berlin and Strasbourg. Received his doctorate in Strasbourg in 1887 "The natives of the Canaries" (Die Urbewohner der Canaren). He was appointed as professor at the University of Strasbourg in 1914 and then was the successor to Oscar Hertwig in Berlin in 1922. He held honorary doctorates from the University of St Andrews , University of Birmingham and Harvard University.
