Introduction
This help page shows step by step (4 steps) how to make your own URL link to a specific region of interest (ROI) within a virtual slide image. The ROI can also be viewed in context by using your mouse wheel to zoom back out.
This guide assumes that you have already identified a virtual slide region of interest (ROI) and that you are viewing the slide using the Desktop link, either by clicking the image thumbnail or using the "Desktop" link below the thumbnail image.
The example shown here is from the Carnegie stage 22 human embryo histology slide (Stain - Haematoxylin Eosin). The cross-section is located at the level of the skull base and oral cavity. The region of interest is the developing cochlea within the cartilage of the developing temporal bone.
Hint - Open the virtual slide in a new tab beside this help page.
UNSW Students please note these are not the Histology and Pathology Virtual Slide Set (located here).

The instructions are shown below the slide as screenshots (left) and text (right). Examples of the permalink usage are shown at the end. This example will select a region of interest (ROI) as the developing cochlea embedded within the cartilage of the future temporal bone. This slide is from the Carnegie stage 22 human embryo histology slide (Stain - Haematoxylin Eosin) located at the level of the skull base and oral cavity. | |||

Here is an example of the Permalink now embedded within text:
Stage 22 Cochlea Image - This link shows an image of the developing cochlea within the cartilage of the developing temporal bone of a Carnegie stage 22 human embryo. The histology image (Stain - Haematoxylin Eosin) shows sections through turns of the developing cochlea and the associated spiral (cochlear) ganglion part of the vestibulocochlear nerve (CN VIII, cranial nerve 8).
