Neural Exam - Newborn reflexes - stepping

From Embryology
Newborn n 25.jpg
This 5-day-old infant is in the alert, quiet state.
  • The stepping or walking reflex is obtained by holding the baby upright over the mat with the sole of the foot touching the mat.
  • This initiates a reciprocal flexion and extension of the legs and it looks like the baby is walking.
