The Wolffian duct comes to an end before reaching the cloaca, and close under the ectoderm; yet the relationship between ectoderm and duct is not so close at the very end of the duct as it is some distance further cranialwards; I show (Text-fig. 7) camera lucida drawings of the last 11 sections of the duct and adjacent ectoderm; at about the bend of the duct or slightly to the caudal side of this, the duct is so close to the ectoderm that I was at first under the impression that an actual opening of the duct on to the surface was present at thispoint,especiallyastheectodermhereisratherirregular;suchan opening, however, does not exist, and it is only that there is very close relationship and, indeed, actual contact between the duct and the ectoderm, as may be seen in the figure.
