Mouse Zygote Pronuclei Stages

Mouse zygotes at pronuclear stages, male pronucleus initially contains 5-methylcytosine (5mC, red) oxidises to form 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC, green).

  • PN1/PN2 (Early)
  • PN3 (Mid)
  • PN4/PN5 (Late)
  • 5hmC - 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (formed by enzymatic oxidation of 5mC).
  • 5mC - 5-methylcytosine.
