Monozygotic Twin Embryos

This historic image shows monozygotic twins with separate amniotic membranes and developing placentas. This would therefore represent a very early twinning event in week 1 (GA week 3).

Based upon the limb appearance and presence of digital rays in the hindlimbs, these embryos are stage 19 in Week 7 (GA week 9) of embryonic development.
