Max Brödel (1870-1941) was a German artist known as one of the major medical illustrators of the turn of the last century. In Europe, he had made drawings for [[Embryology History - Franklin Mall|Franklin Mall]] in the Carl Ludwig (1816 –1895) embryology laboratory in Leipzig. When in the USA, he was at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore from 1894 and became an illustrator in gynecology.

Max Brödel (1870-1941) was a German artist known as one of the major medical illustrators of the turn of the last century. In Europe, he had made drawings for Franklin Mall in the Carl Ludwig (1816 –1895) embryology laboratory in Leipzig. When in the USA, he was at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore from 1894 and became an illustrator in gynecology.


In 1911 became head of the first Department of Art as Applied to Medicine and known as one of the major medical illustrators of the turn of the last century. James Didusch was one of the early students in this department.
