Note in this mutant fly where the antenna should normally be are a pair of "legs" thus pedia. Compare this with the linked image of the normal (wild-type) fly head.
This mutant image shows the basis of the discovery of the first "embryo patterning" genes in the fly that belong to the Homeobox transcription factor family.
