Data presented exclude mothers who gave birth in Victoria. 3. Proportions for remoteness area and socioeconomic areas exclude mothers not usually resident in Australia, and those whose state or territory of usual residence was not stated. 4. Socioeconomic areas are based on the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ 2011 Socio-Economic Index for Areas Index of Relative Disadvantage. 5. Remoteness area is based on the Australian Statistical Geography Standard Remoteness Structure, which groups geographic areas into 6 classes of remoteness area based on their relative access to services, using the Accessibility/ Remoteness Index of Australia.
