Week 12 Head DevelopmentThis lateral transverse rotation shows early fetal week 12 (GA week 14) skull and head development. This stage is after embryonic development and at the end of the first trimester. The cranial vault plates and mandible undergoing intramembranous ossification. Note the ventral midline cleft in the developing mandible where in the earlier embryonic period the first pharyngeal arch left and right mandibular prominences met. See also palate and nasal septum development. Note also ossification within the neck region.
