Stomach Histology
(Stain - Haematoxylin Eosin)
Foundations - Four Basic Tissues
- Epithelial - (secretory sheath) epithelial lining of the stomach. Epithelium (simple, tall columnar) contains mucus-producing cells (surface mucous cells) which form a secretory sheath (glandular epithelium). (embryonic origin - endoderm)
- Connective - sub-mucosal region (lying below gastric glands) (embryonic origin - mesoderm)
- Muscular - (muscularis mucosa) smooth muscle in stomach wall. (embryonic origin - mesoderm)
- Nervous - myenteric plexus lying between smooth muscle layers (not visible at this magnification). (embryonic origin - ectoderm)
