Sigmoid Volvulus

The sigmoid (means S-shaped) colon (pelvic colon) refers to the final portion of the large intestine (bowel) closest to the rectum and anus.

A volvulus refers to the abnormal twisting of the intestine. This can result not only in blocking the gastrointestinal tract but also impairing the flow of blood to the intestine.
