Blood - Thrombocytes or Platelets
(Stain - Haematoxylin Eosin)
- Platelets are circulating fragments formed from a megakaryocyte, a cell located only in the bone marrow.
- Platelet content (count) in your blood can be affected by many diseases.
- Normal adult number of platelets in the blood ranges from 150,000 - 400,000 platelets per microlitre (ml).
- low platelet count (below 150,000) may lead to excessive bleeding.
- high platelet count (400,000 or above), thrombocytosis, can be caused by diseases and lead to excessive blood clotting.
