Mouse Oocyte Fertilization
Sequential differential interference contrast (DIC) images of mouse embryos during in vitro fertilisation.
- Spermatozoa penetrates the zone pellucida (ZP).
- Spermatozoa swims around the perivitelline space (PVS).
- Spermatozoa swims around the perivitelline space (PVS).
- Spermatozoa hits the first polar body (1pb).
- Spermatozoa binds the oocyte membrane.
- Second polar body (2pb) extrudes and the fertilization cone forms.
Legend
- White arrowheads - indicate the sperm
- Red arrowheads - first polar body (1pb)
- Yellow arrowheads - the collapsing first polar body (1pb).
- White and red asterisks - mark the fertilization cone and the 2pb, respectively.
Scale bar represent 20 μm.
