Monochorionic Twin Placenta

Monochorionic twin pregnancies increased risk of perinatal mortality/morbidity due to:

twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS)
selective intrauterine growth restriction (sIUGR)
higher incidence of congenital heart malformations

Legend

arteries - blue and green
veins - red and yellow
white star - large arterio-arterial anastomosis
blue stars - several arterio-venous anastomoses
green stars - veno-arterial anastomoses
