Dorsally extends into the cranial base and to Cranial cavity, the system of the hypophysis.

Der Kopfdarm zieht stark gekrümmt über den Rücken der Zunge kaudal- wärts und teilt sich in den dorsal liegenden Ösophagus und den ventral liegenden Aditus laryngis und die Trachea. Zwischen Vorder- und Hinterzunge zieht der Ductus thyreoglossus zu der bereits in der Tiefe liegenden medialen Schild- drüsenanlage. Dorsal erstreckt sich in die Schädelbasis hinein und bis zur Schädelhöhle die Anlage der Hypophysis.
