This preliminary note is the outcome of our study of a young human embryo (Dobbin embryo, 960, µ long), which was presented to one of us (Hill) by Dr Roy Dobbin of Cairo. The embryo belongs
 to the stage characterised by the presence of a head-process with a well-developed chorda-canal.
