(5th week of development) showing a more advanced stage in the formation of the umbilical cord and a corresponding attenuation of the stalk of the yolksac. The latter is apparently still an actively functioning structure although the stage is being set for its decline in the immediate future. (Fig. 8 from Cullen's “The Umbilicus and Its Diseases,” W. B.
