Haemomonochorial Placenta (EM)

Haemomonochorial placenta of the nine-banded armadillo, Dasypus novemcinctus (Xenarthra). The maternal blood space (MBS) is separated from the fetal capillary (FC) by syncytiotrophoblast (SYN TR).


Xenarthra (strange joints) superorder is a group of placental mammals (infraclass Eutheria), extant today only in the Americas and represented by anteaters, tree sloths, and armadillos.
