Endotheliochorial placenta (EM)

Endotheliochorial placenta of the three-toed sloth, Bradypus tridactylus (Xenarthra). The interhaemal membrane comprises the enlarged maternal endothelial cells (ENDO), syncytial trophoblast (SYN TR) and the endothelium of the fetal capillary (FC). (Stain - Osmium)

Xenarthra (strange joints) superorder is a group of placental mammals (infraclass Eutheria), extant today only in the Americas and represented by anteaters, tree sloths, and armadillos.
