- G0 - withdrawal from the cell cycle, this can be temporary or permanent withdrawal.
- G1 - first growth phase, most variable in length and influenced by external growth factors.
- S - replication of nuclear DNA.
- G2 - second growth phase in preparation for cell division.
- M - mitosis cell division.
