This is a graphical symbolic form of showing how the occurrence and appearance or phenotypes of a particular gene or organism and its ancestors from one generation to the next. This is often, though not always, used in humans in determining clinical history of a disorder in a family tree. This is not necessarily used for just abnormal development but may include the inheritance of "normal phenotypes".
