Endotheliochorial placenta (EM)
Endotheliochorial placenta of the three-toed sloth, Bradypus tridactylus (Xenarthra). The interhaemal membrane comprises the enlarged maternal endothelial cells (ENDO), syncytial trophoblast (SYN TR) and the endothelium of the fetal capillary (FC).
Xenarthra (strange joints) superorder is a group of placental mammals (infraclass Eutheria), extant today only in the Americas and represented by anteaters, tree sloths, and armadillos.
