It is barely implanted within the endometrium, the epithelium of which is attempting to repair the defect in its surface. The thick trophoblastic shell contains lacunae into which flows maternal blood. The central or chorionic cavity contains a globular, bilaminar embryonic disk to which is attached the recently developed exocoelomic membrane. The latter thus surrounds the small irregular exocoelom designated as EX. Carnegie 8215, section 12-5-1, X200.
