Lab 1 Assessment 1. Identify the origin of In Vitro Fertilization and the 2010 nobel prize winner associated with this technique

In Vitro Fertilization refers to a process by which an egg is fertilised by the sperm outside the body. Many attempts were made to fertilised a egg outside the body, but the first attempt to fertilised a egg in vitro was made in the 1973 that caused a early death of the embryo. In July, 1978, Louise Brown, was the world's first baby to be born in Britan as a result of the In VItro Fertilization that was controlled by Dr. Steptoe and Dr Edwards. Robert Edwards was awarded the 2010 Nobel Prize for the development of human in vitro fertilization (IVF) therapy. His achievements have made it possible to treat infertility and help million of couples around the world to have normal, healthy children.

2. Identify and add a PubMed reference link to a recent paper on fertilisation and describe its key findings (1-2 paragraphs).

LAB 2 ASSESSMENT:

Identify a protein associated with the implantation process, including a brief description of the protein's role.

One of the proteins involved in the implantation process is a role of PC6 protein( proprotein convertas). PC6 protein is a protein that is part of the PC family and is tightly controlled in the uterus during preparation for receptivity, making it critical for implantation success. Plays a role in the uterus in association with epithelial differentiation and stromal cell decidualization. Copied from: http://www.princehenrys.org/role-of-PC6

LAB 3 ASSESSMENT:

1. Identify the difference between "gestational age" and "post-fertilisation age" and explain why clinically "gestational age" is used in describing human development.
