An image of a stillborn baby due to an undeveloped brain and incomplete skull
Anencephaly is a condition referred to as "without a brain" because parts of the brain and skull are not properly developed. The nervous tissue undergoes degeneration so the brain remains as a spongy vascular mass[1] It is now called Meroanencephaly because some functioning neural tissue is present.
