Cleft Palate and Lip
Introduction
The clefting of the palate and the upper lip is a congenital deformity that results from developmental abnormality during gestation. The deformity can present itself individually as a cleft lip or palate, or together, as cleft lip and palate. There was limited understanding about the condition till 1896-since when there has been remarkable improvement in the overall understanding of the genetic and prenatal origin of the condition as well as improved surgical and treatment procedures.
