Lab 5 Questions What was the question I said in the respiratory lecture would be part of this week's assessment? What is Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia and how does it affect the human lungs?

Answer Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is a term used to variety of congenital birth defects that involve abnormal development of the diaphragm which then can allow the abdominal contents to protrude into the chest thereby obstructing proper lung formation. Newborn with CDH often have severe respiratory distress which can be life threatening unless treated appropriately.

Lab 6 Questions

  1. Which is the more common clefting, cleft lip or cleft palate?
  2. What structures does pharyngeal pouch 1 form?
  3. Neural crest forms which cells within the skin?

1- Cleft lip 2-Each pouch is lined with endoderm and has the following structures:tubotympanic recess,tympanic membrane, tympanic cavity, mastoid antrum, auditory tube. 3-Melanoblasts then differentiates into melanocytes. --Angama Yaquobi 14:09, 3 September 2009 (EST)

--Angama Yaquobi 14:39, 17 September 2009 (EST) What is a myotube and how is it formed? It is a multinucleated cell which is an undifferentiated contractile apparatus. It is formed by fusion of myoblasts which happens during skeletal development. What changes would I expect to see in the muscle fibre types in my legs if I: a) Suffered a spinal cord injury;

muscle atrophy as well as conversion of slow twitch muscle fibres to fast twitch muscle fibres.

b) Took up marathon running;

muscle growth and conversion of fast twitch fibres to slow twitch fibres.
