This simple cartoon animation shows when messenger RNA (mRNA) leaves the nucleus and enters the cell cytoplasm, ribosomal subunits assemble and commence translating their nucleotide code into an amino acid sequence that will eventually form a protein. The animation finishes with the ribosome "docked" onto the rough endoplasmic reticulum and newly synthesised protein entering the lumen.
