limbic system - (Latin, limbus = "border") Group of central nervous system structures forming the border or margin about the diencephalon including the hippocampus, amygdala, anterior thalamic nuclei, and limbic cortex. Functions include support a variety of neural actions related to emotion, behavior, long term memory, and olfaction. PMID: 10845062
