This is a MRI off-axis (not in at the anatomical plane) sagittal section through the week 6 embryo. spinal cord in longitudinal section (later cross-section). limb buds then appear dorsal aorta showing its branch into one of the placental arteries. The following sections show the cranial course of the dorsal aorta. mesonephros the intermediate stage of renal development remains at this stage. umbilicus containing the midgut herniation. placental cord containing the placental vein. The following sections show the placental vein running into the ductus venosus. liver containing the large ductus venosus. Can be seen emptying into the heart right atria. heart atria showing the right (RA) and left (LA) and (right) ventricle (V). Note the septum premium that initially separates the 2 atria. heart ventricles showing the right (RV) and left (LV). The star marks the inter ventricular foramen. otic vesicle is the early inner ear. central nervous system the secondary brain vesicles and flexures can be seen. ventricular cavity of the CNS containing the choroid plexus.
