Polycystic Rat Ovary
An exampe of a polycystic follicle present in the ovary of a rat. Observe the absence of an ovum and the accumulation of fluid (antrum) in the polycystic follicle. This image displays only a single polycystic follicle, so as to draw a comparison between a regular follicle. However, the number of polycystic follicles present in this rat specimen would likely be vast, resulting in infertility.
