Pax and DNA interaction

All PAX proteins contain a transactivation domain and a DNA-binding domain known as the paired domain (PD). The PD consists of PAI and RED subdomains, each of which is composed of three helices in a helix-turn-helix motif. Some PAX family members also contain an additional DNA-binding homeodomain and/or an octapeptide region.
