Die bipolaren Nervenzellen des Ganglion spirale entsenden einen Fortsatz zentral zum Nervus Cochleae, der schließlich die Medulla oblongata erreicht, und einen andern Fortsatz peripher, der durch die Membrana basilaris zum Organon spirale (Cortii) gelangt. Es sind nur wenige Ganglienzellen und Nervenfortsätze dargestellt. Das Epithel besteht aus Stützzellen (schwarz) und Sinneszellen (Haarzellen). Die peripheren Nervenfortsätze treten [nach vorheriger Teilung an die Haarzellen dicht heran und andere endigen in der Nähe der Pfeilerzellen.
