Wie bei allen Säugern eine Verdickung des Epithels zu beiden Seiten des Vorderkopfes: Area nasalis, Riechpiakode, Riechfeld. Die Zellen sind in diesem Bezirke vermehrt. Das Ektoderm wird mehrschichtig, das flache Riech- feld ist nicht mehr wie im ersten Stadium eine gewölbte Piakode, sondern zeigt schon eine seichte Einsenkung.
