(N. T. 14. ) the aorta by four distinct roots. It will be noticed that all these branches are much above their location in the adult, as can be seen by comparing them with the dorsal segmentals opposite, and it is not indeed until the embryo attains a length of from 16 to 20 millimetres that their definitive position is reached.
