Human Embryo Integument (Carnegie stage 22)

Epidermis is formed as two cell layers

  1. peridermal cells (outer layer)
  2. basal cells (underlying layer)

Histological section of the human embryo surface showing a simple epithelium at this stage of development.

The underlying connective tissue layer is far more extensive and is vascularised.
