Over 95% of the individuals with WBS have deletion of the elastin gene (ELN) detectable by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH)

A figure showing an example of a FISH test that has been used and confirms the deletion of the ELN gene. This deletion of one copy of the ELN gene is very common in individuals with Williams syndrome and is what causes many of the associated symtoms and abnormalities.
