This student-drawn diagram is adapted from a diagram found in the research report Gonadotrope and thyrotrope development in the human and mouse anterior pituitary gland published in the Developmental Biology journal. It illustrates the fetal timeline of anterior pituitary hormone precursor cells and synthesis. It shows that by week 14 there are Gonadotroph Secreting Unit (GSC) precursor cells for Luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and other GSU production which proliferate and are not fully differentiated. By week 19 the LH, FSH and thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) secreting cells exist independently and do not proliferate. The diagram also shows how these cells migrate within the anterior pituitary gland in a rostro-caudal fashion. Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many
