Fig. 24. Defect in the upper part of interauricular septum

Defect in the upper part of interauricular septum (persistent ostium secundum), with pulmonary dilatation, sclerosing pulmonary endocarditis with calcification, and hypoplasia of the aorta. From a woman, aged sixty-four years.

Right chambers laid open to show:

  • A, hypertrophied and dilated right auricle
  • B, large defect in the upper part of interauricular septum bounded below by
  • C, a stout muscular partition, the defective auricular septum
  • D, absence of annulus ovalis and of Eustachian valve
  • E, dilated coronary sinus guarded by a defective valve of Thebesius
  • F, entrance of superior vena cava
  • G, entrance of inferior vena cava.
