| File:Follicle 001 icon.jpg</wikiflv> | This animation shows how a mature follicle (Graafian) located at the ovary cortex increases in volume and finally ruptures at ovulation, releasing the egg along with follicular fluid into the peritoneal cavity.
The released egg enclosed in the protective zona pellucida which in turn is surrounded by supporting granulosa cells. |
