This is the first of a series of 9 time-lapse movies by Shiau etal., (2011) showing the development of sensory placodes in the head of the chicken embryo. Use the placode movie menu shown below to see all of these movies.

Time-lapse imaging of placodal neurons labeled by membrane GFP and nuclear H2B-RFP in the ganglionic anlage show intimate contacts by placodal processes.

Movie shows highly dynamic interactions at sites of axon-axon contacts which eventually make a connection at time of growth cone collapse.
