Renal Agenesis

DTPA scan shows agenesis of the right kidney. The left kidney and bladder show activity

  • radiotracer Tc-99m diethylene-triamine-penta-acetic acid (DTPA).
  • Imaging of the urinary tract is performed over 20-30 minutes using a gamma camera.

Radioactive DTPA is injected into the venous system. The compound then enters the renal system excretion by the kidneys.

A gamma camera can be used to track the compounds progress through the renal system.
