Placental Cord Appearance after Birth
This image shows the appearance of the human placental cord after birth.
The connective tissue surrounding the placental blood vessels is described as Wharton’s jelly and mesenchymal stem cells can be isolated from this region.
First described and named after Thomas Wharton (1614–1673) an English physician and anatomist.
