  • arch - mesoderm and neural crest (ectoderm) contribute the core mesenchyme of each arch.
  • cleft - (groove) ectoderm externally separates each arch (only first pair persist as external auditory meatus)
  • pouch - endoderm internally separates each arch (pockets out from the pharynx)
  • membrane - ectoderm and endoderm contact regions (only first pair persist as tympanic membrane)
