Simplified Scheme of the Roles of Notch in Cardiac Development. Notch has been found to restrict the expression of specific cardiogenic genes in a spatiotemporal manner and regulate cardiac field specification early in development. Further after cardiac differentiation, Notch influences development of the AVC (atrioventricular canal), cardiac valves, ventricular trabeculae and the cardiac outflow tract. This student-drawn image is based upon Figure 2 in the 2014 review by Zhou and Liu: Role of Notch signaling in the mammalian heart. [1]
