Newborn Respiratory Distress Syndrome (NRDS)

NRDS is also known as Hyaline Membrane Disease or Surfactant deficiency.

The typical radiological features of Surfactant Deficiency are:

• -Small volume lungs
• -Homogenous "ground glass" opacity
• -Air bronchograms

This image is taken after surfactant administration but still shows that the heart is completely concealed by the diffused, homogenous lung fields.
