Fetus no. 5, 57 mm. Trophoblast. X 150

5-nucleotidase is present only in the brush border of the syncytium.

Acid phosphatase is present in the syneytial layer and in a few scattered cells of the cytotrophoblastic column. The nuclei do not react.

Eibonucleoprotein is concentrated in the syncytial cytoplasm but is found in moderate amount in the cytoplasm of the cytotrophoblast cells. Compare with ﬁgure 14:.

Ribonuclease digestion of a section adjacent to ﬁgure 13. Compare with ﬁgure 13. The ribonucleoprotein of the cytoplasm of the syncytium and cytotrophoblast has been removed.
