Human Papilloma Virus (HPV)
Papilloma Virus electron micrograph of a negatively stained human papilloma virus (HBV) which occurs in human warts. There are many different HPV strains some of which do not lead to cancer, while some specific strains are known to be associated with cervical cancer development.
Note that "genital warts" are caused by low-risk types of HPV, which do not cause cancer. Some HPV warts on the hands and feet have never been known to progress to cancer.
